St Tropez, came to fame during the 1960's with the 'jet set' and was made famous by people like Brigitte Bardot. Today St Tropez is still famous for its sea front artists, its beaches, the large yachts kept in the harbour, its shops and its restaurants, while still remaining a quaint little fishing village. Close by are the seaside resorts of Sainte Maxime, St Tropez and Cavalaire-sur-Mer with wonderful beaches, shops, cafes and restaurants. During the summer there are regular boat trips from the local beach jetty to the islands of Porquerolles, Port Cros and to St Tropez. The pretty historic hilltop villages of Ramatuelle, Gassin and Grimaud are all within 15 minutes and provide a cool haven for walking, wine and gourmet enthusiasts. For the energetic there are a number of superb golf courses in the area all within easy travelling distance. There are also local tennis, sailing, windsurfing and water-skiing facilities.
